W18: Playing with the Sun: An Open Source Construction Kit for Children to Explore Sustainable Energy

Playing with the Sun is an open source construction kit and set of creative learning activities that invite children to develop an intuitive understanding of sustainable energy through play. To date it has been deployed in four libraries in Denmark, one school in the United States, and experienced by over 2000 children, families, and adults. In this workshop I’ll invite participants to play with the technology and reflect on their experiences as learners. And I’ll describe the process of developing creative learning technologies and activities as an open source community. The workshop will be in English.
